The tricks of great photography

Photographs are an essential tool for selling your vehicle, if your vehicle does not have any images then the potential buyer will question why? They will assume that something is wrong with it and as a result the number of inquiries that you will receive will significantly reduce.

Is it ready for selling?

It goes without saying that you’re not going to sell a rust-bucket. If it looks like it’s just been driven through a ploughed field and is internally decorated with a year’s-worth of drive-thru food containers you’re going to have a hard job backing up the ‘one careful owner’ claim you included in the advert. So clean it thoroughly.

• Wax the bodywork.
• Remove the clutter, including from inside the boot, glove compartment and ashtray.
• Hoover the interior.
• Polish the dashboard and vinyl/leather.
• Have the seats shampooed.
• Polish the chrome.
• Clean the windows.
• Blacken the tyres

Research reveals that each photograph can dramatically boost your response rate by up to 200%.

Bear in mind that the first photo (top left) is the one that appears on the search results page, so make sure this is the one that best ‘sells’ your vehicle. Also remember to include a good mix of inside and outside shots. Pictures of vehicles shot on sunny days naturally appeal more than images of vehicles in dull weather. It may be worth waiting until the weather is right before taking external shots. Take the photographs at different angles to see which works best.

We recommend uploading a minimum of ten photographs, including:

• Each side
• Front and back
• Inside instrument panel
• Inside upholstery
• Wheels
• Under bonnet
• Boot space

Remember 1 picture speaks a 1000 words, use up to 24 if you like.

Uploading photographs

Whether you have a digital camera or a scanner, it is quick and easy to upload your photographs to your vehicle advert. The photographs need to be in landscape and sent as .JPG, .JPEG or .GIF files.

You can easily resize the file in your computer or camera's software. The ideal size would be 400 x 300 pixels. Each image should be no larger than 100k.

Simple Instructions: You can include up to 24 photographs on your advert. We recommend that you display a minimum of 10

• Log into your Mouse Move™ account using your email and password
• Click ‘Add Photos’
• Click ‘Browse’ and select the photo that you would like to upload
• Click ‘Upload’
• The picture will appear on the page so you can check it is the correct photo.
• Now you are ready to upload your next photo.
• Once the photos have been approved they will appear on your advert
• Please note! The photos that you use for your advert must have been taken by you or used with the consent of the person who took them.

How do I resize my pictures?

The three most popular ways to make your images bigger or smaller is by using the following:

• Imaging software such as Paintshop or Photoshop.
• Software supplied with your digital camera
• Through www.myimager.com

What if I don't have my photos on my computer?

You can post photos to us at:

We can then scan these digitally for you and add them to your page. Please enclose a stamped and addressed envelope if you would like these returning. We charge a £20 admin fee for this service which includes up to 24 photos During the 'create you ad' process, a downloadable form will be provided for you to send with your photos.
